With considerable experience in the field I can be found on both the Zita West national network of affiliated acupuncturists, (the largest integrated reproductive health clinic in the UK) and on the Herts Acupuncture Childbirth Team (specialising in pregnancy, obstetric and fertility care).
The use of acupuncture in the treatment of fertility has grown dramatically in recent years. The majority of it may be due to the effectiveness of oriental medicine at treating a wide spectrum of fertility issues.
It is used to treat both men and women, as its important to note that male infertility is a factor in 40-50% of cases.
The first evidence of acupuncture's use in the treatment of fertility dates back over two thousand years to 3AD. Zhang Zhongjing, a famous physician from the Han Dynasty, discussed infertility and a variety of women's disease conditions in his text Jin Gui Yao Lue (Essentials of the golden cabinet).
Acupuncture may be helpful in enhancing the effectiveness of assisted reproduction, and it may also help the body to deal with the side effects of the medication taken.
After giving birth is a time of huge adjustments. Acupuncture may help with balancing hormones, healing, recovery and with the energy needed with a newborn baby.
Providing successful fertility treatment through acupuncture is something I strive for and find extremely rewarding because of the happiness it brings to patients.
